L&T Energy GreenTech Limited (LTEGL), Larsen & Toubro’s wholly owned subsidiary, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Belgium-based John Cockerill to drive technology collaboration in the areas of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Thermal Energy Storage (TES).
The collaboration would look to develop and find opportunities in manufacturing, component supply, and engineering solutions for the execution of CSP and TES projects. LTEGL is a specialist in green hydrogen, its by-products, and electrolyzer manufacturing with diversified business across three pillars—Development, Manufacturing, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
Subramanian Sarma, Whole-time Director & President (Energy), L&T, stated, “L&T is keen on accelerating the shift to next-generation green energy technology. Round-the-clock availability of renewable power is crucial to energizing the global transition. Our joint venture with John Cockerill is a significant step in this direction, combining L&T’s end-to-end capabilities in manufacturing, EPC, and services with John Cockerill’s global leadership in energy.”
John Cockerill, an expert of more than 200 years in the industrial and energy markets, designs renewable energy electricity generation technology, energy storage, and efficiency improvement in power and industrial plants. Technologies encompass heat recovery steam generators, solar thermal receivers, green electricity and storage combined systems, industrial boilers, and cooling.
Derek Shah, Senior Vice President & Head of L&T Energy – Green Manufacturing & Development, highlighted the importance of the alliance, saying, “With John Cockerill’s experience in CSP and TES technology, we envision harnessing the best energy storage technology in harmony with our manufacturing and engineering strengths. This harmony will drive greener round-the-clock power generation and forge a greener and sustainable energy future.”
Vivek Bhide, Group Transformation Officer and Regional President, John Cockerill, said, “Indian businesses are actively engaging with the government on its shift towards sustainable energy usage and net-zero targets. Our TES and CSP technology will help bridge the gap, making Indian industries access sustainable and assured energy solutions. We expect cooperation from LTEGL and are eager to be associated with them in bringing this superior technology to India.
The partnership will give a boost to India’s renewable energy sector by fostering sustainable energy and manufacturing options, making the nation’s move towards achieving its renewable energy goals a smooth one.
