Tata Motors has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Green Energy Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (GEMS) for the supply and operation of 2,000 electric buses in the country. The initiative is a significant move towards green public transport in India. The partnership is to address the green mobility solutions for cities in India and establish low-emission public transportation systems.

End-to-End E-Bus Solutions to Drive Urban Sustainability

Under this partnership, not only will Tata Motors offer innovative electric buses, but it will also offer end-to-end support with servicing, spares, and charging. The EVs will be operated on a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) business model so that there is efficiency in operations coupled with cost transparency for municipal transport organizations. Both entities see the tie-up as playing a key role in decarbonizing the urban transport sector, as India’s vision for clean energy envisions.

Decarbonising Mobility: Tata Motors Leading the Charge

India’s leading commercial vehicle maker, Tata Motors, has already sold more than 1,500 electric buses that have collectively covered more than 100 million kilometers in Indian cities. The company’s commitment to green technology innovations is revealed through its increasing EV offerings and huge charging infrastructure promotion.

Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors, also said, “We are delighted to collaborate with GEMS in their vision to transform city mobility through zero-emission solutions.”

GEMS to tap into Orix’s Financing Power

Green Energy Mobility Solutions, which has the support of the widely popular Eversource Capital, also has the power of global leasing and financing behemoth Orix behind it. Together with the auto pedigree of Tata Motors, this financial heft creates an irresistible force for propelling clean mobility at scale.

Vikash Mishra, GEMS CEO, added, “Our ambition is to make green public transport accessible and reliable. A tie-up with Tata Motors enables us to deliver high-quality electric fleets at scale.”

Shaping the Road to a Greener Tomorrow

The MoU is merely another milestone in India’s EV journey. With sustainability finding acceptance, such collaborations between operators and manufacturers will be the engine of public transport and net-zero aspirations.

As Indian urban centers struggle with air and traffic pollution, such widespread electric bus introductions could become the standard in public transport development.
