In a significant move towards sustainability and energy efficiency, an approval has been granted by Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) for a 125 KW solar power project for its Nashik sub-centre. The project is an initiative undertaken under the ‘Solar Electricity Generation-Green Project and is being executed in collaboration with Epiroc Company Ltd.
This initiative will not only ensure continued electricity access to the Nashik sub-centre but will also lower costs for electricity, thus aiding the university’s larger environmental objectives.
MoU with Epiroc Company Ltd in final stages
The solar project funded through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to be executed in the ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ year could not have been possible without continuous follow-up by Sagar Vaidya, member of the Nashik Management Council. The MoU between SPPU and Epirock Company Ltd is expected to be signed soon, thus linking the two entities together. Leadership from SPPU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suresh Gosavi, Pro VC Prof. Parag Kalekar, and Acting Registrar Prof. Jyoti Bhakre has ensured that administrative support steers the project forward.
A Green Leap for Campus Infrastructure
“The solar energy project will provide the university with a clean and renewable energy source, which is further beneficial for the environment,” commented Prof. Gosavi on the influence of this project on not just infrastructure but environmental sustainability. Further to that, this initiative would reduce energy costs, allowing the university to spend resources more judiciously.
There is a lot more coming – good news for setting up a green, great campus and improving the university’s reputation. This single project would save several million rupees, which would have otherwise been spent on electricity for the Nashik sub-centre.
Green Goals and Future Vision
The 125 KW is not just an endeavour by SPPU on clean energy but also a larger national aspiration for a green campus ecosystem. The increasing energy requirements and growing focus on sustainable education infrastructure certainly present an example for other educational institutions.
