OLA Electric has launched its much-awaited Roadster X and Roadster X+ electric motorcycles in India. The Roadster X starts at ₹74,999 and the Roadster X+ starts at ₹1.04 lakh. These are designed to provide performance with efficiency, and it will be offered with multiple battery pack options for a balance of power, range, and cutting-edge technology.

Both motorcycles share the same support for OLA’s hypercharger network across the country and arrive with a 3-year warranty standard, optional up to 5 or 8 years, depending on choices. Deliveries will start by mid-March 2025, except in the case of the 9.1kWh battery size, which comes into effect by April 2025.

    Main Features and Specifications

    1. Roadster X: Compact and Efficient

The Roadster X boasts a 4.3-inch color LCD display, cruise control, reverse mode, advanced regenerative braking, all-LED headlights, and connected bike technology. The three riding modes that can be switched through are Normal, Eco, and Sport. This versatility helps cater to different riding conditions.

This Roadster X is powered by a 7kW electric motor that delivers peak power at 9bhp. It comes in three variations of battery configurations.

    • 2.5kWh battery: 140 km range, 0-40 km/h in 3.4 seconds, top speed of 105 km/h
    • 3.5kWh battery: 196 km range, 0-40 km/h in 3.1 seconds, top speed of 118 km/h
    • 4.5kWh battery: 252 km range, 0-40 km/h in 3.1 seconds, top speed of 118 km/h

    2. Roadster X+: High Performance and Extended Range

The Roadster X+ offers a few additional premium features, including front disc brakes, which provides improved safety. The vehicle features an 11kW more powerful electric motor and delivers a maximum power output of 14bhp, along with the choice of two different batteries:

    • 4.5kWh battery: 252 km IDC-certified range, 0-40 km/h in 2.7 seconds, top speed of 125 km/h
    • 9.1kWh battery: 4680 Bharat Cell, Range: 501 km IDC-certified, 0-40 kmph in 2.7 seconds, Top Speed: 125 kmph

Both models have IP67-rated waterproof and dustproof protection and have a chain drive system with an integrated MCU for efficient torque transfer. The bikes also come with flat cables, which increase overall durability and reliability.

    Charging and Availability

OLA will supply a 1kW charger as standard equipment, with the option of installing a 2.2kW charger on request for the faster charging options. The two motorcycles will come in five colours, catering to different rider preferences.

The deliveries for the Roadster X and the 4.5kWh version of the Roadster X+ will begin in mid-March 2025. The Roadster X+, with a 9.1kWh battery, will start being available April 2025.

    Impact on India’s EV market

Thus, aggressive pricing and a high range of up to 501 km hopefully do make the OLA Roadster X and the Plus variant transform the electric motorcycle business in India. With affordability, advanced technology, and range in hand, they are sure to be perfect contenders against what have traditionally been petrol motorbikes.

In its bid to continuously drive innovation for a rapidly expanding Indian market of electric two-wheelers, OLA Electric pushes on with added strength into the EV space. The new additions, the Roadster X and Roadster X+, promise to attract everything from urban commutes to the longest of distance rides, while keeping the noise out and eco-friendliness at the fore of conventional motorcycle choices.
