In January 2026, Andhra Pradesh has made a bold move to win over India as the clean energy powerhouse with an estimated value close to 158 billion ($1.75 billion) of renewable energy projects being approved under its Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy 2024. The project is included in the large-scale agenda of the state to reach 160 GW of renewable capacity by 2020.
The Clean Energy Push of Andhra Pradesh
- Policy Framework: In October 2024 the ICE Policy 2024 was announced giving a five year roadmap to make Andhra Pradesh a global clean energy hub. It targets to bring in investments of 10 trillion (~$119 billion) and combine solar, wind, and hybrid projects, as well as battery storage and pumped hydro projects.
- Recent Approvals: In August 2025, the State Investment Promotion Committee gave the nod to a total of 43,358 crore (~$5.2 billion) worth of projects that will add more than 2,600 MW of new capacity. Another 158 billion (~$1.75 billion) in the latest batch of approvals in early 2026 will further cement the aggressive growth of the state.
- Capacity Goals: 160 GW ambition encompasses power purchase to state utilities, interstate exports, and clean hydrogen as one of the main stakeholders in the Indian energy transition.
Strategic Advantages
- Geography & Infrastructure: Andhra Pradesh has a long coastline with six ports operational and other four currently being developed and several industrial parks, which make it a strong start point in exporting renewable energy and green hydrogen hubs.
- Technology Mix: The state is devoting attention on solar and wind farms, hybrid farms, battery storage, and pumped hydro storage, which guarantee grid stability and 24-hour supply of clean power.
- International and Domestic Investments: There are a number of international and domestic companies that have already received permission to invest in the state, such as Hexa Energy, Serentica Renewables and bright future Power.
Economic Environmental Impact
- Job Creation: The projects will create thousands of jobs in the construction, operations, and maintenance sectors, which would enhance the local economies.
- Green Hydrogen: Andhra Pradesh aims to establish itself as a hydrogen center and its derivatives by matching the national plans of the National Green Hydrogen Mission of India.
- Carbon Reduction: The state has a goal of 2030, which involves offsetting millions of tons of carbon emissions per year and that will make a significant contribution to the climate commitments of India.
Outlook for 2026 and Beyond
As the approvals work more quickly, Andhra Pradesh can become a global hub of clean energy by the beginning of the 2030s. The combined element of the ICE Policy the renewable generation, storage, hydrogen, and exports make the ICE Policy a model to other states in India. The state has already cleared projects valued at over 200 billion in less than two years of which the state is a positive sign of investor confidence and a stable policy.
