Juniper Green Energy has switched on its 72 MWp (Megawatt-peak) solar facility in the Solapur district of Maharashtra. The company announced the news on Thursday, calling it a major step toward completing its larger hybrid power project in the region.
This latest chunk of capacity went live on January 10. It joins the 36 MWp that began operating in September last year.
Project Beats Deadline by Almost a Year
Here’s the part that stands out. The original deadline was November 2026. Juniper wrapped it up more than 10 months before that date.
That’s not common in India’s power sector, where delays often stretch into years. The company credits tight project management and its subsidiary Juniper Green Spark Ten Private Ltd for pulling this off.
How the Full Project Breaks Down
The Solapur facility isn’t just solar. It’s a hybrid setup that mixes sun and wind power. Here’s what the final numbers look like:
The project carries a total capacity of 133 MWp. Out of that, solar accounts for 108 MWp under contract. Wind turbines add another 25 MW to the mix.
Juniper signed the power purchase agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited back in November 2024. MSEDCL will buy the electricity generated here.
What Comes Next
The solar side is now fully up and running. Wind capacity integration remains the next milestone before the project reaches full operation.
Ankush Malik, the CEO of Juniper Green Energy, stated, “We’ve demonstrated once more our ability to deliver projects ahead of time.”
Maharashtra has been adding renewable capacity at a steady clip over the past two years. Projects like this one help the state reduce its dependence on coal while meeting rising power demand.
