Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has officially launched its first solar panel manufacturing line, a crucial move toward achieving its ambitious 10 GW annual production capacity. This development was announced during the company’s FY25 earnings presentation, reflecting Reliance’s growing commitment to India’s clean energy transition.
Setting the Stage for 20 GW Solar Capacity
Situated within a massive 5,000-acre giga-factory complex in Jamnagar, Gujarat, the newly commissioned solar line is scalable up to 20 GW. According to Reliance CFO V Srikanth Venkatachari, the facility’s flexible design allows quick ramp-up to meet rising demand. The plant will manufacture cutting-edge solar photovoltaic (PV) modules capable of producing up to 720 watts, among the highest in the market.
Powering India’s Renewable Energy Dreams
Reliance’s investment directly supports India’s goal of installing 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. It also aligns with new government regulations that mandate the use of locally-made solar PV modules for all clean energy projects starting June 2026. By strengthening domestic solar panel manufacturing, Reliance is helping India reduce dependence on imported equipment and promote self-reliance in green energy technologies.
Building a Green Energy Ecosystem: Batteries and Hydrogen
Beyond solar, Reliance is investing heavily in battery storage manufacturing and green hydrogen production. The company is developing a fully integrated green hydrogen complex at Kandla, Gujarat, equipped with multi-gigawatt electrolyser production facilities. Additionally, Reliance is advancing plans to build a 30 GWh battery storage unit with a modular design that can be expanded as needed.
Reliance New Energy Leads the Charge
Reliance’s green initiatives are led by its subsidiary, Reliance New Energy, which has acquired Singapore-based solar manufacturer REC Group to integrate advanced technology into its operations. The company is also focusing on research and development (R&D) to further strengthen its position in solar panel manufacturing and green hydrogen production.
Shaping India’s Future in Sustainable Energy
Mukesh Ambani’s $10 billion renewable energy blueprint, first unveiled in 2021, is moving swiftly toward realization. With its first solar manufacturing line now operational, Reliance is not only contributing to India’s clean energy goals but also establishing itself as a global leader in the renewable energy sector.
