On March 29th Waaree Energies Ltd. inaugurated the installation of about 5.4 gigawatts of solar cells in Chikhli, Gujarat. The plant stretches over 150 acres of land with a built-up area of 101 acres, making it among the largest solar cell plants in India. The opening of this solar cell plant has brought India closer to becoming a global clean energy powerhouse.
The ceremony was attended by eminent political dignitaries, including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, Pralhad Joshi (Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy), and C. R. Patil (Minister of Jal Shakti), as well as some senior ministers of the Gujarat cabinet, along with P. P. Chaudhary, Chairperson of One Nation, One Election.

Hailing the facility as a symbol of energy independence for the Indian Union, Joshi said:
“One of the largest facilities for solar cells becoming available manifested Atmanirbhar Bharat and underscored India’s rising might in the global renewable energy ecosystem.”
Waaree’s investment aligns with the central government’s current push to make domestic manufacturing of clean energy technologies part of its far-reaching Make in India strategy and energy transition developments.

The gigafactory will generate more than 9,500 direct jobs and create, indirectly, an additional 30,000 jobs and thus significantly boost the local economy in Gujarat and contribute towards India’s green industrial revolution.
