In a major step toward India’s clean energy goals, ReNew Energy Global Plc will invest ₹22,000 crore to set up a 2.8 GW hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh. This will be one of the largest renewable projects in the country, combining solar, wind, and battery storage technologies.

    Project Highlights

The project will be located in the Anantapur district. It will include:

    • 1.8 GW of solar capacity
    • 1 GW of wind power
    • 2 GWh of battery energy storage

This hybrid model will allow consistent, dispatchable power delivery for at least four hours daily, helping manage peak electricity demand more effectively.

    Phased Execution

The development will happen in phases. The first phase includes 587 MWp of solar, 250 MW of wind, and a 415 MWh battery system. ReNew has already signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for this phase. The rest will be added in upcoming phases.

All solar panels for the project will be sourced from ReNew’s own manufacturing plants in Jaipur and Dholera, supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

    Government Support

The foundation stone was laid by Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for IT and Energy, Nara Lokesh. He called the project a sign of Andhra’s return as a clean energy leader. Sumant Sinha, CEO of ReNew, praised the state’s investor-friendly policies and strong solar-wind resources.

The project aligns with Andhra’s clean energy policy, which aims for 78.5 GW of solar, 35 GW of wind, and 25 GWh of storage capacity.

    Job Creation and Local Impact

This project is expected to create around 1,500 direct and indirect jobs. It will also give a major push to local businesses and services in the Anantapur region. Currently, ReNew operates over 775 MW of capacity in Andhra Pradesh.

    National Significance

The project is a strong step toward India’s target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. It also puts Andhra Pradesh at the center of India’s clean energy map.
