RenerCycle, a lifecycle expert specialising in renewable-energy, has been contracted to decommissioning of 87 end-of-life wind turbines in a complete overhaul of a wind farm in Spain. The project is an important step in the modernisation of aging onshore facilities in order to enhance efficiency, safety, and grid compatibility. The demolition will open the area to repowering with larger capacity turbines that will make more power than the previous ones using the same land area and decreasing the maintenance downtime and operation risk.
Dismantling Plan led by the Circular Economy.
At the heart of the operation lies the approach of the circular-economy by RenerCycle. The business will focus on reuse, refurbishment, and recycling of the used parts of steel towers, copper wiring, and mechanical parts. Composite blades will be managed in a responsible manner using specialised processes that will prevent the materials used in the process of making blades going into landfills. The project will greatly reduce lifecycle emissions by maximising material recovery and lead to a sustainable decommissioning practice standard in Europe.
Repowering Benefits ofenergy transition in Spain
.
After dismantling is complete, the site will be ready to host next-generation turbines able to provide an improvement in output with reduced-unit counts and capacity factors, as well as grid stability. The refurbishment is in line with the renewable objectives of Spain as it unlocks more power of clean energy without consuming more land. The industry observers regard the project as an example on how to scale-up the wind repowering- a combination of technical efficiency and sustainability- at the time when Europe is increasing the pace of transition to resilient, low-carbon energy systems.
Community Impact, Safety, and Logistics.
the dismantling programme is accompanied by stringent safety measures, a regulated crane use, and intensive logistics to reduce the number of inconveniences to the surrounding communities. Contractors and transport providers will be involved locally and this will aid in regional job creation in the transition period. The implementation plan includes environmental protection measures (dust control, noise control, and biodiversity safety) to make sure that the Spanish and the EU environmental regulations are observed.
