Gujarat aims for 100 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, as the regional conference kicks off in Saurashtra-Kutch.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Rajkot on Sunday to inaugurate the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for Kutch and Saurashtra. The two-day event is all about clean energy and Gujarat’s growing role in India’s green transition.
Government officials and business leaders from across the state joined Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi at the opening.
Gujarat Wants to Lead India’s Energy Shift
The conference agenda ties directly into India’s climate promises. PM Modi’s ‘Panchamrit’ commitments set the tone here. The targets are steep but clear. India needs 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. Renewables should cover half the country’s energy needs by then. Carbon emissions need to drop by a billion tonnes, and carbon intensity must fall 45 percent before the decade is out. What is the final goal? Net-zero by 2070.
Gujarat isn’t waiting around. The state has launched Mission 100 GW, locally called Shapath Patra. The goal is simple. Cross 100 GW in renewable energy capacity by 2030 and become a driving force behind India’s energy overhaul.
Day One Wrapped Up With Energy Talks
The Energy and Petrochemicals Department ran the show on day one. A CEO Roundtable titled ‘Ocean of Opportunities – Blue Energy, Green Future’ opened discussions on nearshore wind and blue energy prospects. Executives and policymakers talked about what the coast can offer beyond ports and fisheries.
A fireside chat brought green startups into the conversation. Another session called ‘Carbon to Crops’ looked at how sustainable practices can boost farm yields while cutting emissions.
There’s also an exhibition running alongside. Stalls are showcasing solar innovations, daytime power solutions for farmers, and projects under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Gujarat has done well under that scheme, and officials are keen to show it off.
What Happens Tomorrow
Day two starts with a flagship session on solar dividends. The focus will be on PM-KUSUM and the Surya Ghar scheme, both of which have pushed decentralised solar adoption in the state.
GUVNL plans to release a compendium of best practices from its subsidiaries. A few MoUs are expected to be signed, and there will be a felicitation for vendors, beneficiaries, and power-sector employees who stood out over the past year.
The summit covers 12 districts in western Gujarat. It’s the second regional conference the state is holding this year. The first happened in North Gujarat back in October, and two more are lined up for South and Central Gujarat later in 2026.
The idea is straightforward. Spread investment and industrial activity beyond the usual centres and get smaller districts involved in the growth story.
