The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), with support from Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (CREST), held a special awareness programme on Business Opportunities for Women in Solar Industry for promotion of women-led entrepreneurship in the renewable energy space on Friday.

Solar Sector Opens New Doors for Women

While address the gathering, Rajneesh Bansal, the Chair of PHDCCI Chandigarh Chapter stated that without a strong participation of women, India’s clean energy future would remain incomplete. He stated that today’s solar sector is capable of offering diverse entry-level choices including installation of rooftop solar, providing energy audit, system integration, maintenance services and clean-tech consultancy.

    Tips from the Real World

Sharing his experience, Bhupinder Kumar, Director, Inter Solar Systems, informed about rapid growth of rooftop solar projects in urban centres like Chandigarh. Women were encouraged to explore dealership models, EPC contracting, and service-based solar businesses, which are less capital-intensive but provide excellent returns over the long term.

    Financing Easier Access.

One of the highlights of the programme was a presentation by Siddharth Mittal, Punjab National Bank, on loan facilities available under the government scheme PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. He spoke about simplified application procedures, interest benefits and credit options especially designed to facilitate first-time women entrepreneurs.

    Increasing Engagement Suggests Change

Around 90 women professionals and business aspirants participated in the workshop showcasing their rising interest in clean energy entrepreneurship. Attendees engaged with bankers and technical experts to understand market opportunities and operational challenges.

India’s Green Growth Revolves Around Women.

Experts concluded that such initiatives are important for creating conviction, increasing financial literacy and developing leadership qualities among women in the renewable field. India is ramping up its renewable capacity, and experts believe that empowering women in solar is key to achieving this goal.
