Odisha is taking massive steps towards renewable energy to generate large employment and attract huge investments by 2030. A recent study shows that the state can generate about 10 lakh (1 million) green jobs and attract investment worth ₹3.5 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector during this period.

    Renewable Energy Initiatives

The Odisha government has been pro-active in clearing the decks of renewable energy projects in order to achieve its ambitious targets. Single Window Committee (SWC) under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, in June 2024, cleared investment proposals worth ₹903.41 crore. The investments have been made in wind energy projects located in Nabarangpur and Puri districts to contribute toward the state’s ambitious target of 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by the year 2030.

The SWC, in October 2024, has cleared renewable energy projects valued at ₹4,671.81 crore in its in-principle approval. The projects include a 600 MW pumped storage plant in Kalahandi district and three wind power projects of a cumulative capacity of 148.5 MW in Nabarangpur, Khordha, and Jagatsinghpur districts. This will further Odisha’s plan to build up its renewable energy infrastructure to meet its 2030 targets.

    Financial Support and Future Prospects

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited has also sanctioned more than ₹3,000 crore for green energy projects across Odisha. The investment is in the sectors of solar, hydro, ethanol, and renewable energy manufacturing. This back by IREDA advance underlines the huge potential that this state has in getting to be one of the driving makers of solar power and a center for the fabricating of solar hardware.

With such activities, Odisha isn’t as it were concerned with natural maintainability but also with financial development through work creation and mechanical improvement. Its commitment to renewable energy can be established through strategic planning and substantial investment; hence, it positions itself very well to become the leader in the green energy sector in India by the year 2030.
