NTPC Green Energy Limited has reached a new landmark. On Wednesday, the company announced that it had begun commercial operations on part of its Khavda-I solar PV project in Gujarat. This new block contributes 130.47 MW to the grid. The state-owned power giant has recently expanded its renewable energy portfolio with the addition of a 130 MW solar project in Khavda.

This brings the total NTPC Green Energy renewable capacity in India to 8,478.25 MW. That is a sizeable figure, considering that the firm has been pursuing clean energy goals aggressively.

    What Is the Khavda Project?

The Khavda-I Solar PV Project is located in the Gujarat region of Kutch, which has become a solar power hotspot in recent years. This is an addition to the government’s CPSU Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III programme, which compels public sector companies to develop greater renewable capacity.

The 130.47 MW, which was recently commercialised, is in fact the tenth phase of the bigger Khavda project. The commencement date of commercial operations is January 29, 2026.

Prior to this addition, NTPC Green Energy was running approximately 8,347.78 MW. It is not only a gradual increase but a continuous rise that has no indication of stopping.

    Why This Matters

India has established some high levels of renewable energy. The nation aims to reach 500 GW of non-fossil fuels by 2030. It is no easy task, and players such as NTPC must step forward.

NTPC Green Energy, a 100% subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has been doing just that. The company operates hybrid projects, solar plants and wind farms throughout the country. Every megawatt gets India a step nearer to its climate commitments.

    Looking Ahead

Future predictions indicate that the Khavda region in Gujarat will host even more solar and wind capacity. It has flat topography and high solar irradiance, making it a favourable location for large-scale projects.

For NTPC Green Energy, the next step is not to cross 8,400 MW. The company has indicated that expansion remains a priority as India accelerates its clean energy future.
