The Maharashtra government has passed a total sum of 1,105.58 crore in electricity state subsidy to install solar-powered agricultural pumps in the entire state, a significant move in ensuring that farmers are able to have their daytime power supply and assist in the receptivity of clean energy usage in country districts.

    A Major Solar Irrigation Squeezer

Funds approved under the scheme will flow through the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) under the scheme called Magel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump Yojana in the set fiscal year 2025-26 as per a government resolution by the industries, energy, labor, and mining department dated January 30.

The plan will mean giving a continuous supply of power throughout the day to the agricultural pumps by changing them to solar energy instead of the normal grid power to allow farmers to irrigate their farms throughout the day and also reduce the need for electricity derived from the use of fossil fuels.

    Scale and Progress

The plan by Maharashtra is to install a maximum of half a million solar pumps within five years, and it is a scheme of wider state concerns that relying on renewable energy to assist agriculture in this state can be implemented.

In October 2025, some 152,000 solar pumps had been implemented in the entire state. In general, the solar pump project is being funded by utilizing the combination of international funds and state budgetary support.

The government is increasing the cost of the entire project by about 60 percent using market loans in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the balance is in the form of subsidy.

    Long-Term Financing and Repayment

The loan payments of the AIIB with interest will be settled in 2029-2043 and will be financed through supplementary electricity taxation and the payment to the Green Energy Fund of the state.

Installations on Records and Impact in the Country

Other accomplishments that have previously won Maharashtra a Guinness World Record include installing 45,911 off-grid solar pumps in only 30 days, demonstrating just how fast Maharashtra has rolled out renewable solutions and how it has affected rural livelihoods and irrigation security in the state.

Through a substantial subsidy plus the tactical financing, the state will provide certainty in power supply among the farmers, cut down the expense of energy, and further its devotion to the clean energy in the field of agriculture in the next few years.
