Kinetic Group has launched a new venture in India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector. On February 21, 2025, the company announced a battery manufacturing plant under the “Range-X” brand. This development strengthens the country’s EV supply chain.

    New Plant in Maharashtra

The facility is located in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 50 crore. It aims to produce 60,000 batteries annually, targeting two- and three-wheeler EVs. Situated near Pune, a major automotive hub, the plant benefits from strategic positioning. Production will focus on meeting the rising demand for electric scooters and rickshaws in urban areas.

The plant will manufacture Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries. Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Kinetic Group, stated, “Range-X is a result of pioneering work in batteries and a significant step towards India’s mobility transformation.” The facility emphasizes automation, safety, and sustainability. It also aims to manufacture prismatic cells for three-wheelers.

This project fits into the Indian EV market growth, at a 28.52% compound annual growth rate to $18.319 billion by 2029. Kinetic Group desires to empower local manufacturers so that India does not have to rely on battery imports. The strategy fits into place with initiatives such as Production-Linked Incentive schemes under the PM E-drive programme by the government. This can assist in making EVs cheaper because of local manufacturing.

    Strengthening the Supply Chain

Kinetic’s launch brings in a new entrant for India’s EV space. Emphasis on domestic assembly of batteries aligns with India’s efforts towards going at it alone in green mobility. Though two- and three-wheeler EV bookings are on the rise, the plant meets a critical need for secure sources of power. It also draws lessons from peers to create a strong supply chain, critical to India’s vision of widespread EV adoption by 2030.

This action by Kinetic Group is a pragmatic step forward. It brings fresh capacity and technology to the table, supporting the shift toward sustainable transport across the country.
