Kinetic Engineering Limited (KEL), a legacy name in the Indian automotive landscape, has formally licensed its iconic “Kinetic” brand to its electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary, Kinetic Watts and Volts Ltd. (KWV). The group has committed a substantial ₹71.83 crore investment in KWV to drive innovation, scale production, and build a future-ready EV product portfolio.

Legacy Meets Future: The Brand Licensing Agreement

Under the newly inked agreement, KWV has been provided a non-exclusive license to utilize the “Kinetic” brand name for a period of three years, with extension by right on a subject to strategic fit basis. Brand handover is a strategic fit for the group whose brand name epitomizes Indian two-wheeler ingenuity, the fabled Kinetic Honda.

“This is more than a business decision, it’s the continuation of a legacy,” remarked Ajinkya Firodia, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of KEL. “KWV represents our belief in a cleaner, smarter future. The license ensures our heritage continues in capable hands.”

Capital Backing to Power the Transition

To fund its electric leap, KEL and its founders have already infused ₹42.83 crore into KWV, with another ₹29 crore committed soon. This ₹71.83 crore total investment will elevate KEL’s stake in KWV to 80%, making it the primary driver of the group’s EV ambition.

KWV, incorporated in September 2022, is set to roll out its go-to-market strategy and product line in the coming months. The company aims to address the growing demand for eco-friendly, urban mobility solutions, aligning with India’s broader push for electrification in transport.

Building the EV Ecosystem: More Than Just Vehicles

Kinetic Engineering isn’t just betting on vehicles. The group has established its presence across the EV value chain, manufacturing gearboxes, axles, and chassis for EV makers. In addition, it has ventured into battery technology with the launch of its “Range X” brand, aiming to provide affordable and efficient energy solutions.

This multi-pronged strategy signals Kinetic’s transformation from a traditional automotive player to a holistic electric mobility brand.

What’s Next for Kinetic Watts and Volts?

KWV will be revealing its EV plan including product launch, strategic partnership, and expansion plans in the coming quarters. The company is creating solutions designed for Indian customers, with a focus on the two-wheeler and last-mile delivery categories.

As India looks towards an electric future, Kinetic’s recent moves tell the story of a deep commitment towards clean transport, local innovation, and developing a clean mobility at scale ecosystem.
