The Indian Electric Vehicle (EV) industry has registered a record in the history of CY 2025, wherein the annual retail sales registered record sales of more than 2 million units. It was mainly due to the electric two-wheeler (e-2W) segment that registered an iconic 1.28 million sales, which constitute about 56 percent of the entire zero-emission vehicle market in the nation.

    Marketing Field Leadership

CY2025 was a historic change of leaders in the market. TVS Motor Company has become the new leader in the electric two-wheeler segment, and Ola Electric has lost the leadership after three years. TVS recorded unprecedented sales of 298,867 units, which takes up 23 percent of the market share.

On the other hand, Ola Electric saw a geometric drop, as sales collapsed by 51 percent annually to 199,316 units. This downturn witnessed the previous management fall to the fourth position, with old-school producers and well-known brands stamping their authority in the industry.

    Senior mutineers and expansion facts

Some manufacturers reached the highest annual retail records in 2025:
Bajaj Auto: This company received second place with 269,836 units and improved by 39 percent in comparison with 2024, led by their Chetak portfolio.
Ather Energy: Registered 200,785 units and the first time registered a figure above 200,000 units. It had almost 70% of its sales on its Rizta family scooter.
Hero MotoCorp: The largest in terms of growth rate, its electric model Vida sold 150 percent to 109,167 units, making it the first year sales beyond 100,000 units.

    Market Dynamics

The E-2W segment, in general, increased by 11 percent in the year 2024. The electric model’s penetration in the total two-wheeler market (including petrol) was 6.30, optimistic of 6.07 the past year.
Professionals postulated significant additions to the development of lower maintenance expenses and government subsidies, though there was a decline in November and December, which came after a GST 2.0 reform that reduced the price difference between electric and conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) automobiles.

In the coming year of 2026, the industry predicts that the competition will be more intense as manufacturers will increase service networks and introduce new models aimed at the family audience. It is predicted that the next year will shine through the record sales in the E-2W vehicle industry.
