Landmark Event Strengthens India’s Energy Future

The India Energy Week 2025 concluded with record-breaking participation, solidifying India’s position as a global energy leader. Notably, the second-largest energy convention in the world, IEW 2025, was the main platform for various pioneering declarations, including the biggest exploration bid ever, the implementation of clean energy transition, and the reinforcement of global partnerships.

Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, applauded the event as an outstanding achievement and stated that it was a trade show that also connected businesses. He particularly pointed out that the conference was in-depth in terms of the whole energy sector, covering conventional petroleum, natural gas, and green energy, as well as solar+biofuels and compressed biogas (CBG), both of which have a strong stance toward innovation and energy sustainability.

The Minister also ensured that IEW 2026 will be held in Goa, which once again confirmed the event’s fast transformation from a local to a global powerhouse in the energy sector.

Major Announcements: Boosting India’s Energy Sector

A very huge highlight that analysts and stakeholders remember from IEW 2025 is the introduction of Open Acreage Licensing Program (OALP) Round X, which encompasses a staggering 200,000 square kilometers. The Minister said that his ministry`s new rental payment plans and offshore exploration drilling have significantly increased participation from investors, both local and international, because they have got proof of its functioning and trust that the providence issue has been solved along with the license for the land and revenue-sharing options. He further stated that the department is in consultation with various stakeholders to gather information on the issue.

India will also ensure energy security through the issuance of new legislation for the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948, which will be presented to Lok Sabha soon. The Minister Puri commended ONGC, BP, and Reliance, who were collaborating on the blocs to show the strength of public-private partnerships in India’s energy sector.

Green Energy Transition: A Vision for Sustainability

In IEW 2025, major themes of the conference were renewable energy, biofuels, and green hydrogen. The Minister drew attention to the vast potential of biofuels, mentioning the fact that India, during ethanol blending, produces about 1,700 crore liters, and this rate far exceeds the target of 20%. There is fortunately enough real-world evidence that supports these technologies (the rapid decline in renewable energy costs being the most glaring). We will see more and more of them in the future.

Further, India plans to increase the green hydrogen market and wants to produce 5 MMT of the gas by the year 2030. The Indian government is also investigating the feasibility of using cleaner fuels that can be produced from renewable resources like SAFs (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) to curb the emissions in the aviation sector.

India-US Energy Cooperation and Global Partnerships

Mr. Puri mentioned increasing Indian-US cooperation in energy and particularly pointed out the area of liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies as one of the main fields. Along with the fast-increasing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) supplies, Mr. Puri emphasized the aspirations of India to raise natural gas consumption from 6% to 15% of the country’s energy mix, arguing the strategic importance of LNG imports from the United States.

Moreover, the Minister made reference to the fact that there are some new oil-producing nations in the Western Hemisphere, such as Brazil, Argentina, Suriname, Canada, and Guyana, that have been India’s reliable partners for a long time. He presents a positive picture of India investing in oil and gas production in countries such as Brazil, Venezuela, Russia, and Mozambique around the globe.

Reforms and Policy Predictability: It’s Time to Make India’s Energy Market

In his words, Minister Puri made clear the modification of the laws, taking and on in particular the ones, including just now by the Rajya Sabha, that concentrate on the transfer, issuance, and distribution of energy. The new version of the windfall tax framework avoids any discretion in the license system of the energy producers to ensure a just and predictable taxation system.

The Oil Industry Development Fund is set to be a vessel for financing deep-water zone development, which in turn will be a great source of capital for offshore energy projects.

IEW 2025: A Defining Moment for India’s Energy Future

As IEW 2025 concluded, the event stood as a testament to India’s rising influence in global energy discussions. With groundbreaking agreements in oil exploration, clean energy, and policy reforms, India is cementing its position as a global energy leader.

The third edition of India Energy Week, scheduled for February 11-14, 2026, in Goa, promises to build on this momentum, continuing to shape India’s energy future and redefine global energy dialogues.
