Cebu, Philippines-based Anjo World Theme Park has set a new benchmark for sustainability by entering into a tie-up with First Gen Corporation to implement a 750 kilowatts geothermal power generation to its operations. This move is a landmark for the park, the biggest amusement destination in the Visayas and Mindanao, as it reiterates its commitment to minimizing its ecological footprint.
The First Gen Partnership
The company inked the partnership on 13 February 2025 under which Belmont One, the mixed-use commercial complex in which Anjo World is situated, will be permitted to use geothermal energy, a renewable and clean source of power. Not only does this reflect the sustainability commitment of Belmont Group, but it also sets the path for other regional companies. Chester Lim, president of Belmont One and Anjo World, hoped that this would be true, saying, “We are committed to constant innovation and the use of more efficient, forward-looking solutions in our business.”
Adding geothermal power to the park’s energy mix should have a substantial reduction on its carbon footprint. With 750 kilowatts of geothermal power, Anjo World will benefit from cleaner electricity, contributing to the broader aim of environmental conservation. Arlene Sy, Head of Power Sales and Marketing at First Gen Corporation, highlighted the importance of this shift, saying, “Through our partnership with Belmont One, we’re helping Anjo World shift to cleaner electricity, reducing its environmental impact.”
Beyond Geothermal: A Whole New Approach
Not only content to just supply power, are First Gen and its subsidiary Pi Energy Inc. Also setting up a remote monitoring system at Belmont One, optimizing energy usage, and going a step further in creating sustainability. Belmont One is even exploring other sources of renewables such as the sun through putting up solar panels within the complex, diversifying its power source.
This move towards sustainability in Anjo World is not just a change of energy; it’s a roadmap for how big entertainment complexes can be operated sustainably. By choosing geothermal power, Belmont Group not only gives energy security and economic efficiency but also sets a roadmap for corporate social responsibility for the entertainment industry.
The Future Ahead
As Anjo World paves the way for the green revolution, it makes a powerful statement regarding the viability and worth of renewable energy in energy-hungry uses like theme parks. It’s a message that implies business and sustainability need to go together and that other companies need to follow suit. Anjo World’s own search for a greener tomorrow, nonetheless, is only ahead, and with the heightened innovation it can itself easily lead others along the way elsewhere in the world as well.
