February 10, 2025—In a move of great significance towards responsible business practices in the renewable energy sector, NKT has just announced it is joining the International Responsible Business Conduct (IRBC) Agreement. The commitment was mentioned in a press statement by the company earlier this week and underlines proactive positioning toward global standards on ethical and sustainable business conduct.

The IRBC Agreement for the Renewable Energy Sector is an agreement between the solar and wind energy companies, trade unions, NGOs, and the Dutch government in conducting business responsibly internationally by identifying risks within the value chain with regard to human rights and environmental impact. NKT’s decision to sign this agreement proves its commitment not only to advancing renewable energy solutions but doing so in a way that respects both people and the planet.

With its high-voltage power cable solutions, NKT has been one of the major supporters of the transition to renewable energy. With projects across Europe, most notably large contributions to offshore wind farms and grid interconnections, NKT’s participation in the IRBC Agreement will set a precedent for how companies in the sector can carry out their operations with greater accountability and transparency.

The press release from NKT explains how this step fits into the company’s broader sustainability goals. By signing the IRBC Agreement, NKT commits to:

    • Implementing the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights in its operations.
    • Participating in group projects to handle or prevent identified risks in the value chain.
    • Sharing of best practices and collaboration with the other members to drive the industry to further levels of sustainability.

The timing for such an initiative couldn’t have been better, seeing the worldwide rising demand for renewable energy solutions. In line with this, through the maintenance of responsible business conduct, NKT not only will enhance its reputation but will also contribute to the sustainable future of the energy sector.

Those interested in the detail of NKT’s commitment or wider implications of the IRBC Agreement can refer to the full text of the press release on NKT’s official website under the news and press releases section.
