Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez recently announced a bold initiative on the production of green hydrogen by stating an investment of €1.3 billion to establish hydrogen hubs all over Spain. The goal forms part of the bigger strategy of making the country one of the leaders in renewable hydrogen production around the world. Speaking during his visit to the National Hydrogen Centre (CNH2) at Puertollano, Sánchez underlined Spain’s role in the “great energy and industrial revolution” by the potential for hydrogen to “strengthen the industrial character of Puertollano and Castilla-La Mancha.”

Sánchez also pointed out that this measure is in line with Spain’s commitment to the energy transition. He added that, coupled with European Union contributions, this funding will create jobs and further improve the competitiveness of Spain in the global energy market. “It is possible to adapt to the effects of climate change by reindustrializing the country and creating jobs, business, and opportunities for the territories,” he said.

The plan will strengthen Spain’s production of green hydrogen, in line with EU clean energy goals, positioning the country as one of the main exporters of cheap and clean energy. Sánchez also underlined the importance of public-private cooperation in economic recovery, with public investment in the National Hydrogen Centre. This investment will back Spain’s growing role as one of the leaders of the global energy transition.

Sánchez closed on an upbeat note, adding, “If we maintain this determined commitment to the energy transition, Spain can achieve the chimaera of becoming a cheap and clean energy exporting country.”
