India is on its way to emerging as a global manufacturing hub for producing green hydrogen and further solidifying its commitment to renewable energy. The latest announcement in that direction came when Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, talked about the recent developments that the country has registered on this front. He pointed out, “India has entered into an MoU for the export of green hydrogen and is eyeing a target of 1800 GW of renewable energy by 2047.”
Green Hydrogen – A Game Changer for India’s Energy Transition
India has always kept itself very well positioned in the line of green hydrogen, which is a very integral part of the global transition to cleaner energy. Joshi highlighted that India has already signed agreements for the export of green hydrogen and has taken a big stride toward meeting global energy sustainability goals. That is possible only because of the growing renewable energy infrastructure in the country, ensuring that the production of green hydrogen aligns with its clean energy vision.
Renewable Energy Capacity: 1800 GW by 2047
India’s ambitions in renewable energy are highly ambitious, with the government targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy by 2030 and then scaling up to 1800 GW by 2047. “By 2047, India plans to reach 1800 GW of renewable energy capacity, which will be vital in reducing carbon emissions and ensuring energy security,” Joshi said. The objective underlines India’s resolve to advance invigorate its renewable energy infrastructure while playing a lead part in battling climate change.
In line with its objective to play a leading role in the green hydrogen space, India has signed important international agreements aimed at expanding the exports of green hydrogen. Emphasizing on India’s role in the industry would also be the driving force globally for the transition to renewable energy. With such large-scale commitments to green hydrogen production and other renewable energy projects, India can be seen leading the global landscape in the times to come.
