US President Donald Trump went after green energy policies during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, calling them the “greatest hoax in history”.
Trump did not hold back while addressing global leaders and business executives at the annual gathering in Switzerland.
Wind Energy Gets the Harshest Criticism
The American president saved his strongest words for wind power. He called windmills “losers” and mocked European countries for buying them.
“Every time that goes around, you lose $1,000. You’re supposed to make money with energy, not lose cash,” Trump told the audience.
He referred to windmills as “those damn things” and repeated his long-held claims that they kill birds and ruin landscapes across the continent.
Trump also took a swipe at China’s role in the wind energy market. He claimed that Chinese companies make most of the world’s windmills but don’t use them at home.
“China makes all windmills, but I can’t see any there. They sell them to stupid people in Europe and make fortunes,” he said.
Green New Deal Becomes ‘Green New Scam’
The president rebranded the Green New Deal as the “Green New Scam” during his remarks. He argued that Europe’s heavy push toward clean energy has backfired badly.
According to Trump, these policies have driven up costs and put serious pressure on European economies. He depicted a scenario where countries are grappling with the burden of their own climate commitments.
Migration Adds to the Problem
Trump didn’t stop at energy. He also blamed mass migration for worsening conditions in Europe.
He claimed that the combination of green policies and open borders has weakened European economies. Both issues, he said, need urgent attention from leaders.
Mixed Reactions Expected
Trump’s comments are likely to stir debate on both sides of the Atlantic. Climate advocates have long pushed back against his views on renewable energy. Meanwhile, his supporters see these remarks as plain talk about failed policies.
The speech sets the tone for what could be a tense year in global climate discussions.
