The initial wind power converter to have been shipped by Swiss industrial technology giant ABB was made in India after its acquisition of the Gamesa Electric power electronics business in December 2025. The milestone delivery, which was manufactured in the Nelamangala plant of ABB based in Bengaluru were to be delivered to one of the largest wind turbine OEM and these milestone deliveries will be the key to the strategic growth of ABB into renewable energy manufacturing in India as well as other countries around the world.

The Gamesa Electric Technology is to be integrated.

The shipment will play a key role in incorporating the state-of-the-art in converting wind energy technology of Gamesa Electric in the overall ABB renewable portfolio. Gamesa Electric, which was acquired by Siemens Gamesa, has a business of power convertors, inverter, and control that are vital in the wind, solar, and storage of energy. This takeover greatly increases the serviceable installed base of wind converters of ABB by about 46 GW, which is almost one-fifth of the present renewable energy capacity of India

Increasing the Renewable manufacturing presence of India.

The local converter is in line with the Make in India and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives of India to help achieve the goal of creating a domestic manufacturing power in the area of clean energy technology. This action both strengthens the presence of ABB in the Indian ecosystem of renewables, as well as accesses a growing value of the country as the global manufacturing hub of renewables

In the transition to energy, the government must support the process by providing funding .The government would have to finance the energy transition.

It plays a strategic role in the region and is set to expand in the future.

The program will improve the integration of wind power in the electric grids as ABB claims that the program will provide the grid-ready conversion technologies that are designed to perform reliably. Wind energy has become a significant issue in the process of global energy conversion, and the highly developed converters are essential to the effective work of the turbine and stable operation of the grid. The increased products of ABB now include wind converters together with utility-scale solar inverters and battery energy storage system (BESS).

It plays a strategic role in the region and is set to expand in the future.

The analysts in the industry view the shipment as a mark of ABB long term commitment to the renewable sector in India where the wind capacity is projected to be increasing at a fast rate until 2030. It is anticipated that local manufacturing of such key elements will lower the cost and enhance supply-chain resilience, as well as the goals of the expansion of the clean energy capacities in India
