NLC India Renewables Ltd (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) for an 810 MW solar project. The massive project will be set up in the Bikaner district, known for its high solar potential.

This project is NLCIL’s largest solar power venture to date. It will be developed under Mode 8 of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s (MNRE) Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) scheme.

A Big Win for Green Energy

Once operational, the project is expected to generate over 2 billion units of clean electricity each year. This will help offset approximately 1.5 million metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, contributing significantly to India’s climate goals.

According to NLCIL’s Chairman and Managing Director, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the project is a major leap for India’s green energy mission. “This solar park in Rajasthan not only strengthens our renewable energy portfolio but also supports the nation’s commitment to clean and sustainable power,” he said.

    Solar Energy Push in Rajasthan

Rajasthan continues to emerge as a renewable energy hub. With ample land and sunlight, the state has become a preferred destination for large-scale solar developments. The collaboration between NLC India Renewables and RVUNL adds further momentum to this growth.

The Bikaner location was selected for its solar irradiance, infrastructure readiness, and accessibility. The solar park will help Rajasthan increase its share of renewables in the state’s energy mix.

    Supporting India’s Net Zero Vision

The solar park is a milestone achievement in helping India reach its goal of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by the year 2030. This PPA offers a long-term guarantee of availability of clean energy to the state of Rajasthan, which is increasingly experiencing power demand.

As NLC India builds up its renewable portfolio, this initiative is symptomatic of increasing coordination between state governments and public sector businesses to lead India’s energy transition.
