In a significant development for India’s clean energy landscape, the India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) has appointed Debmalya Sen as its new leader. This strategic appointment is a reflection of IESA’s commitment to driving growth in energy storage, e-mobility, green hydrogen, and other emerging clean technologies in India.

Debmalya Sen has over 13 years of multi-domain experience in the energy industry across operations, project development, asset management, business development, and management consulting. He has been working in prime positions at top-notch companies like KPMG India and Customized Energy Solutions. Sen was employed as Manager – Business Consulting at KPMG India, where he served strategic advice to develop energy projects. His tenure as a Senior Consultant at Customized Energy Solutions further enhanced his knowledge about energy storage solutions and approaches.

Besides his corporate experience, Sen has also been a regular contributor to the world’s energy discussion. As India Lead for Advanced Energy Solutions at the World Economic Forum, he has published about India becoming a global advanced energy solution leader. His “How India is emerging as an advanced energy superpower” piece is an indication of his keen understanding of the industry’s path.

Sen’s analysis of the Indian Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) industry has garnered immense attention. While recently profiling India on YouTube, he outlined India’s market for battery storage, describing India’s potential, although a late entry. His comment gives an overview of the evolution in the industry and the waiting opportunities to be tapped.

His leadership will be geared towards propelling IESA’s mission with innovation and sustainability in India’s energy sector. His peers, colleagues, and others have welcomed and appreciated his appointment, a sign of trust in his capability to lead IESA into the new age of clean energy innovations.
